THE SHAMEFUL TREATMENT OF OUR IRAQ WAR VETERANS MUST STOP NOW!

The Facts

• 1.6 million Troops have served their country in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  
• I.E.D.s have left an unprecedented number of burned soldiers whose needs for long term psych care are often not met.
  
• 38% of soldiers and 50% of National Guard have come home with mental health issues ranging from PTSD to Traumatic Brain Injury. Left untreated PTSD can lead to substance abuse, violence, severe depression, and suicide.
  
• Only 27 of the V.A.’s 1400 Hospitals offer in patient PTSD treatment.
  
• A number of veterans have committed suicide after being turned away from V.A. hospitals.
  
• 600,000 claims for medical and disability benefits are backlogged in V.A. system that is under funded and in full melt down.

Instead of hiring more doctors and claims processors. The V.A. has created a new rubber stamp denial policy. Unless the V.A.’s system is funded and fixed immediately there will be irreversible harm and incalculable cost to veterans, their families, and a nation which has turned its back on a generation of wounded heroes.

The Consequences

• Homeless, unemployable Veterans
  
• Increase in drug abuse, alcoholism, and crime
  
• Broken families
  
• Burden on our health care system
  
• A generation that distrusts the Armed Services for breaking their promise “to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his orphans and widow.”

• Send an email to your Congressperson, Senators, and Presidential Candidates.
  
• Tell them they will not get your vote if they do not fix this national disgrace.
