All serious burns can have devastating consequences whether the harm
happens in a house fire caused by a careless smoker, or a military
vehicle fuel fed fire caused by an insurgent's explosive device. The
consequences are similar: Excruciatingly painful wounds which
require multiple surgeries, lengthy rehabilitation, and
psychological care. The patient is usually left with physical
disfigurement, and deep emotional scars. The burn survivor requires
more resources and follow-up than almost any other type of injury.
The Burn Advocate Network's mission is to support burn survivors be
they children, young men and women who are combat wounded, or the
elderly as they face the challenges of recovery, rehabilitation, and
reintegration.
The key to optimal recovery for burn survivors is access to
health care including medical, surgical, and psychiatric care. Where
that treatment is withheld we will fight for the individual or group
that has been denied that basic right. Where disability or damages
are wrongfully denied or delayed we provide solutions to facilitate
recovery. We recognize that without funds for treatment, a return to
a stable and productive life is usually not possible.
Burn Camps provide an effective means to help young burn
survivors cope with their painful new world. The respite they offer
from the cruel treatment kids receive can change their entire
outlook on life. We support burn camps around the country by sending
them recreational equipment and volunteers. We raise money to allow
them to reach more burn survivor children and provide them with more
therapeutic activities. We also help them raise funds to add
additional weeks to their programs.
Children’s Surgical Missions relieve the suffering of the most
vulnerable of burn survivors, children who live in countries where
there are few medical resources . Burn Advocates Network supports
their goals by providing funds and procuring surgical equipment for
their life changing mission.
